Overview

ForMotiv Background

It has probably never occurred to you, but as the Internet shifted virtually every business model online, one key element of human behavior was lost - reading someone's body language.

Using modern technologies for data science, AI and ML, we analyze behavioral cues collected while users engage with web applications to classify and predict end-user intent. ForMotiv is helping leading financial service companies to improve online experiences as well as reduce risk and fraud. ForMotiv is a real-time behavioral intelligence tool that helps companies fill in the missing link when it comes to their customer data - their digital body language.

Job Description

We’re looking for energetic technology polyglots that enjoy challenging problems and value the opportunity to work with industry experts and push themselves to new heights. Opportunities are available to those who have some or all of the skills we have listed. This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground-floor of a rapidly growing international startup. You will work on both traditional DevOps / SRE activities and on extending those skills into the latest hot field, Machine Learning Ops (MLOps). You will work directly with the technology, data science, and management teams.

Our stack includes customer embedded javascript, Java and Python APIs and Java web applications deployed on Amazon Web Services. Data science services use R and Python code and notebooks.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Build, support, optimize, monitor and integrate ForMotiv’s python, java and infrastructure technologies with the AWS infrastructure
  • Design, implement and maintain common DevOps plumbing, such as automated builds and deploys, operational monitoring/alerting and performance tuning within the AWS environment..
  • Assist data scientists and engineers in automating the movement and processing of data in a real-time Machine Learning environment.
  • Design and provide performance and resilience testing.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 4 year computer science or related degree (highly recommended, but may be waived with relevant experience)
  • 2+ years as a DevOps, Back-End, or Systems Engineer working primarily with cloud technologies at a reputable company with references
  • Strong mathematics and problem-solving skills
  • UNIX experience - including experience installing and configuring high volume servers and services such as web servers, caching servers, queuing / messaging services, monitoring and alerting services and agents and so forth.
  • Automation experience using tools such as BASH, Python, Packer, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, CloudFormation, Airflow, Circleci, Jenkins or similar.
  • Familiarity with general UNIX and AWS networking concepts such as routing, firewall configuration, VPC’s, Gateways and so on.  Ability to troubleshoot common network connectivity issues.
  • Experience with software development processes and tools such as Scrum, Kanban, Git and Jira.
  • Python or Java experience (at least one required)
  • Experience with multiple database types and products, such as Postgres, Mariadb, MongoDB, Redshift, etc. Ability to write SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as InfluxDB, Logstash, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana and similar.
  • Machine Learning or Data Science exposure (not required but a plus)
  • Self-motivated, proactive, organized and a willingness to learn (and be taught)
  • You’re comfortable in a fast-paced, unstructured environment
  • Eagerness to wear multiple hats and lend a hand to your teammates when called upon

Perks:

  • Stock options with vested interest in growing the business
  • Ground floor access to venture-backed technology start-up with global presence
  • The chance to contribute to our growing culture and join a winning team
  • Grow and advance in any number of potential roles including management

The 5 Cultural Characteristics we look for:

  • Curiosity: You look at each day as an opportunity to learn something new, not as an opportunity to prove what you already know.
  • Work ethic: You look at each day as an opportunity to get better for yourself and your team
  • Empathy: You care how others feel around you, and you have the capacity to understand their points of view.
  • Teachable: You know your strengths and weaknesses and you aren’t afraid to ask for help; everybody you work with is smarter than you about something; willing to learn from everybody and willing to accept that you can always improve the way YOU work.
  • Integrity: You have the judgment to do the right thing even when it’s not in your own self interest
